At my core, music has always been my focus. Sometimes it’s the composition or performance of that music, or capturing it for others to listen to or even watch. Sometimes it’s photographing other musicians and telling their story or helping them organize their presence online and developing/implementing a strategy for marketing their art. Throughout my various skill sets and creative outlets, I still find the greatest inspiration from music.
As a college student, I studied Music Performance at the Crane School of Music with a concentration in percussion, which translates to developing a high degree of proficiency across a variety of platforms and idioms (drum set, timpani, concert and orchestral snare drum, ethnic percussion, keyboard instruments, and “found percussion” within genres ranging from jazz and rock to classical and modernist/minimalist). This solidified my foundation.
Simultaneously, I minored in Music Business while managing an on-campus music venue (everything from booking acts to marketing the events and managing the technical aspects of live sound and equipment maintenance), writing for our newspaper, teaching drum lessons, and running a small freelance mobile-recording business. This established my hunger for activity.
After college, I took the position of Percussion Product Specialist for the world’s largest musical instrument accessory manufacturer, D’Addario & Co. In just six months time, I was responsible for conceptualizing new products, collaborating with our engineering team, prototyping new concepts, training internal and external sales staff on the products, and spearheading the marketing for these products. This formalized my skills and opened up further opportunities.
Now I manage the social and digital marketing for each of D’Addario’s percussion brands (Evans Drumheads, Promark drumsticks, and Puresound) and focus on content creation and consumer engagement. I also work independently as a photographer, videographer, and marketing specialist working with artists, musicians, and small brands in and around New York City.
I also enjoy bicycling, documentaries, travel, and a good bourbon. I honestly can’t remember that last time I was actually bored.
